Arbitrum (ARB) is the governance token of the Arbitrum DAO, which oversees Arbitrum One, an optimistic rollup that settles its transaction batches on Ethereum. Which coin pays the gas when I send ARB?
ETH pays it, on the same network as your ARB. Sending from Arbitrum One costs a small amount of ETH on Arbitrum, and sending the Ethereum mainnet version costs ETH on mainnet. Without it the transfer cannot be submitted, however much ARB the wallet holds.
Can I receive ARB at my MetaMask address?
Any 0x address you control works, because Arbitrum One and Ethereum share the same format. Add the Arbitrum One network to MetaMask if you receive the default listing, then import the ARB token contract so the balance shows up.
What happens if I send ARB on the wrong network?
The deposit address only accepts ARB on the network shown on the order page, so a transfer on the other network may never be detected, and blockchain transfers cannot be reversed. The rate floats, so a market move before your deposit confirms can change the result slightly. The quote you saw already included the payout network fee and the exchange margin, and both are deducted from what you receive.
