For paying gas on Polygon PoS, effectively yes: in September 2024 Polygon upgraded MATIC to POL at 1:1, making POL the network's gas and staking token. On xswap.to that same coin keeps the MATIC ticker. Your wallet may show the balance as POL, which is expected.
