It does if the XRP goes to an exchange or custodial account, because those platforms share a single address and sort customers by tag. A self-custody wallet where you hold the keys usually needs no tag. If your platform shows a tag, enter it, since a missing tag can leave the coins unassigned.
An XRP Ledger classic address starts with the letter r and is 25 to 35 characters long. Some wallets also show an X-address that bundles the tag, but the safest choice is the classic r address plus a separate tag if one applies. A payout of a normal size funds and activates it in the same transaction, though the reserve then stays locked in the account.
