One practical reason to convert ADA to ETH is gas: without ETH you cannot move ERC-20 tokens, mint or use most Ethereum apps, and this gets ETH into a fresh wallet without a detour through a centralized exchange account.
Ethereum (ETH) runs on proof-of-stake and produces a block every 12 seconds, and ETH pays for every transaction on the network. Cardano (ADA) is also proof-of-stake, but it uses a UTXO-based ledger and addresses that usually start with addr1, while Ethereum uses accounts with 0x addresses. The two chains are separate, so this is a cross-chain swap, and no memo is involved. The default ETH here is mainnet, and the layer-2 versions of ETH are separate selector options.
Enter an ADA amount and the widget estimates your ETH at the current floating rate, with Ethereum gas for the payout already subtracted. Because mainnet gas can be high when the network is busy, small swaps lose a larger share to that fee. The final ETH may differ a little if the market moves before your deposit confirms. You can, but through a different selector option. This page pays native ETH on Ethereum mainnet, and the selector lists ETH on Arbitrum One, Base, OP Mainnet, zkSync Era, Linea, Manta Pacific and Starknet separately. Layer-2 payouts usually cost less in network fees, so they can make sense for small amounts.
It will, as long as MetaMask is set to Ethereum Mainnet when you look. The payout goes to your 0x address on mainnet, so switching MetaMask to another network shows a different balance. The same 0x address works on every EVM chain, which is why the network choice in the selector matters.
The Ethereum gas for sending your payout is deducted from the ETH you receive. That fee stays roughly the same whatever the amount, so it takes a bigger bite out of a small swap. When mainnet is congested the effect grows, and the widget estimate updates to reflect it.
It is an ETH-pegged token on BNB Smart Chain, paid to a 0x address but on a different network from Ethereum mainnet. Moving it requires BNB for gas. If you want real ETH on Ethereum, keep the default Ethereum option on this page.
An empty Ethereum address can receive the payout, since the gas for that transfer is paid on the sending side and taken from your estimate. After it arrives, the ETH covers gas for anything you do next on Ethereum.
